ARM, AMD and Intel Chip flaws

What has been said?

Flaws have been discovered in Central Processing Units (CPU, chip or microchip) which could allow privately stored data in computers and networks to be hacked.
The good news is that so far no data breaches have been reported.
There are two separate security bugs, known as Meltdown and Spectre.
● Meltdown affects desktops, laptops and internet servers with Intel chips
● Spectre affects chips in smartphones, tablets and computers powered by Intel, ARM and AMD so potentially has a wider reach.

What can I do?

Normally these announcements are made when the company has fixes in place to prevent hackers exploiting them. In this case the major players have known for at least six months, but Intel weren’t intending to release the news until next week.
The three major operating system players Microsoft, Apple and Linux are all issuing updates over the next few weeks.
So, if you see an update coming through for your PC, laptop, tablet or phone over the next few weeks please install it immediately.
